UA in the Caribbean 2024 will offer two classes in Sint Maarten. Courses will include a mixture of class time and an array of excursions throughout the 28 days on the island.

Cost?
​
The program costs between $5,600 and $6,000 (final cost is coming soon). This cost includes tuition for the courses, accommodations at Sapphire Beach Club & Resort for 28 days, all program excursions, breakfast at the resort each day, and some meals provided with excursions and program events. If you are an out-of-state student, it is actually cheaper to go to the Caribbean for a month than to just pay tuition for two courses in Tuscaloosa (6 out-of-state credit hours = $6,275).

How (do I sign up!)?

The first step is to complete the Faculty-led Program Application on the UA Education Abroad website. The general application is up now; when filling it out indicate interest in UA in the Caribbean. Once program-specific applications come out, they will contact you to fill in any other information neede.

FAQs
Q: How do I apply?
The faculty-led program application will be available soon. When it is, it will be posted on the UA Education Abroad website. We will also link to it here. The application should be completed as soon as possible. Program director Dr. Jameson Hayes will review applications and be in touch.

Q: When do I pay?
Initial deposits of $250 will be due in November 2022. Education Abroad and student accounts will then set up a 3-payment schedule with payments due in January, February, and March of 2023.
​Q: Who can go?
Anyone with a a GPA of 2.5 or higher in good standing with the university is eligible to go on the program. Do to space limitations (only 24 slots are available), the Director may conduct interviews to select students for this high demand program. So, sign up early!

Q: Will this program count towards graduation?
Yes, and though the classes are advertising and public relations oriented, it doesn't matter what your major is. For advertising and public relations majors, the courses count as upper-level electives within your major. For those not majoring in advertising and public relations, the courses count as general electives. Speak with your advisor for more information.

Q: What costs am I responsible for other than program costs?
Any cost not listed above as covered by the program. This will include, for example, air travel to and from Sint Maarten, meals not covered by the cost of the program, COVID test (if necessary), and day-to-day spending money.
Tip: Bring plenty of cash because taxis do not accept credit cards. ATMs are available with bank fees. Safes are available in each studio suite.
Tip: Students stay in studio apartments with a stove top (no oven), a full-sized fridge, microwave, and utensils. Most students buy groceries to safe money.

Q: Can friends and family visit?
Of course! However, no guest are allowed to stay in student room at all. Friends and family are very welcome to visit, but they are responsible for their accommodations and expenses.
