As we close in on week two of this adventure, I have gained more knowledge about the island and about the culture here, along with learning course material in the classroom and about myself. This island is filled with so much culture and welcoming people and a great group of classmates.
This week one of our main foci and assignments in class was working on a client profile for the company Vacation St. Martin. We had to evaluate and look at all sides and angles of the company. Such things being their social media, who they are as a brand, their overall theme, and much more and put it all together into a profile to really see the company broke down and its functions.
It was interesting to see this company in a detailed way. Also, it was interesting to see some of the aspects that you and your group didn’t think were the most important things, were more prevalent in another group's project.
The aspect of social media is something that is very interesting to me, especially looking into the future and a career path, so I enjoyed analyzing their different social media platforms and seeing what they are doing well, what people are reacting well to, and to come up with creative ideas for improvements to help their engagements.
Now on to the fun stuff...
On one of our excursions this week we went to Topper's Rhum Distillery. It was a unique experience, we got to learn all about the history of the rum and the stories about the different flavors and even did some cooking with rum. Overall, it was a great experience.
In the end, before we left, I talked to Topper himself, and he said that he loves people coming in and taking these tours and learning all about his rum and that he loved to see all our young faces in here having fun on our trip. He even told us about his niece who previously went to the University of Alabama, a fun small world moment. And told us to check the next time we are in T-Town for Topper's Rhum because there is a bar that has a shelf on top of the bar filled with bottles of the one and only Topper’s rum.
The location of Topper's was in Simpson Bay, an area that we haven’t spent as much time in, so it was interesting to see and spend some time there. I find it interesting how different the towns are but then also similar. They all have their own unique traits about them but all still share the same culture and atmosphere.
Reflecting on week two and all of the memories and experiences that have become, I am so thankful for this trip, which is turning into the best summer even with having to go to class.
