My Favorite Week!

Updated: May 18

As we head in to our final week of this program, the past three weeks have truly been life changing. Although I have enjoyed my time here so far, this past week was definitely my favorite out of the three I have experienced. My favorite excursion we did was this past Friday, it was a catamaran tour and we went to Prickly Pear and Anguilla. We only went to shore on Prickly Pear but when we docked in Anguilla I could see the shore but we just stayed in the water and swam.

When we stopped at Prickly Pear I swam to shore for lunch and had Mahi Mahi with rice, it was amazing! Something that I noticed right away was how stunning the beach was. Yes, Sint Maarten has beautiful beaches but this beach was breath taking. The water was so clear and warm, but the main difference I noticed was the sand. At Mullet Bay on Sint Maarten, the sand has more of a brown undertone and is really grainy and rocky. The sand at Prickly Pear was almost as white as a piece of paper, and it felt like powder. Since this was my first time on Sint Maarten, I expected the sand to be white and powdery but it was not, which was disappointing, because in photos it looked like it was going to be.

After experiencing the sand at Prickly Pear, when I am planning my next beach vacation I will make sure to take in to consideration the type of sand on the beach. I can take what I learned and apply it to my campaign for Sint Maarten by making sure to include a description of the sand, because that could make or break someone's decision in coming to the island. Although I prefer the white powdery sand, some people may prefer a more grainy and rocky feeling to the sand which would draw them to Mullet Bay. The type of sand is a big part in someones experience at the beach, so it is important to include a decription of the sand so the consumer has a better understanding of the beach. This can also be applied in Public Relations because it is imortant to include details that may impact one's decision on wheather or not they want to buy ther product, or in this case book a vacation.

I never considered including a detailed description on the type of sand, but after experiencing two very different types I feel like it is necessary to avoid false advertising. Leaving out a description of the type of sand can be considered false advertising because in photos it looks very white and powdery which is what I was expecting coming to this island, but was disappointed when the sand felt like the beaches back in California. In addition, including detailed a decription of something so specific like the sand could gain the consumers trust because we are being transparent with every little detail, even the type of sand at the beach.

Overall, the catamaran experience was a 10/10 and I would recommend it to anyone that goes to Sint Maarten. Aside from the catamaran day, this past week I feel like I have really formed friendships that will last after this trip. Although I love the island, I am starting to miss the United States and my routine back at home. According to the Delta app, I check in for my flight home in five days which is a bitter-sweet feeling.
